Arlen Specter announced he was changing parties today, switching from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party. After the absolutely huge blow up surrounding his switch, I think it would be appropriate to join the fray and give my two cents: I’m unmoved by this news. If you want to know why, you only need to take a look at his record in the Senate.

War is evil. Killing is evil. Torture is evil. Yes, I get it. I understand. I also understand that without them our enemies will not stop. I understand that as long as these people are out there, there is a chance that my fellow Americans – my friends and my loved ones and my family – are in danger. And I’m would do anything, anything, to keep them safe.

Regulatory takings are things which the government doesn’t technically take from you, but which they have regulated to the point where they are of little or no value. Naturally, this type of situation results in a large number of very pissed off people who feel that the government has quite literally stolen their property from them. Whether their claims are true or someone’s just crying wolf depends on the exact regulation and property, but the mere existence of such a loophole in our system is outrage enough.
