Oops, that should have been $800 billion, not trillion. When numbers get that big, we might as well be talking about gazillions. :)

In general, I agree with what you're saying, this is all politics as usual, political hacks playing the political game and that game plays the same from both the left and the right. I was encouraged when Obama said that the second half of Bush's disastrous stimulus package would be better spent, then he turns around and comes up with an $800 trillion porkbarrel project that won't to anything to actually help the economy.

Unfortunately, both sides have it entirely wrong, the problem isn't the economy needing grease, it's that the economy is entirely unsustainable and has been for years, it needs to be reset, but anyone who suggests actually fixing the problems will find themselves out of office almost immediately. The American people don't want to hear that free and easy credit and entitlement to all the latest and greatest flashy gadgets needs to vanish. The economy is based around that kind of thinking, fixing the economy is going to require a lot of hard cuts and rethinking of the entire financial outlook of most companies.

No one, Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal, is willing to suggest those changes because it's political suicide for themselves and their parties. Anything that's being done, both by Bush and now by Obama, is a desperate attempt to bandage over the hemorrhaging wound and hope they can hold out until someone else is in office so it doesn't look like their fault when the whole house of cards collapses.

Don't be surprised this is what Obama is doing, McCain would be doing the same thing if he had gotten into office.

Once again I concur with your assessment Janus. Americans being the lemmings they are hear words like "hope" and "change" and immediately drink the Kool-Aid before casting their vote. People mistake change as progress, but change just for the sake of change is not progress.
