The religion is not the root of evil but the people who preach the wrong teachings of the religion itself for self righteousness and justification of their evil act. Muslim tend to justify the jihad or holy war by terrorism wherein in fact the Koran prohibits and condemns killing innocent people. Christians on the other hand mainly the Catholic People, during 16-18th century, they mass murder a lot of people believing that they are pagan and children of Satan, a stupid act initiated by the Vatican. Furthermore, the use of God-like idol of Jesus which is very handsome where in fact is kind of opposite of what he really looks like in the bible is a kind of taboo that the catholic church represents. True salvation cannot be achieved by believing in other people who says that they are righteous. Read, research and discover the answers for yourself by opening Koran or Bible, because the people that runs the religion right now are the root of vileness and evilness that makes this world ugly. I have high respect for Queen Rania of Jordan. Although, I am a catholic before but now an Atheist, her view with regard to Islam and its teachings is what amazes me. I hope that the catholic people would also see the ugliness of our own religion. If you want someone to cook, clean, do all your chores for you, and have sex with, and you're in a position to make that happen, I'd be willing to bet you can get it. If you want to get away with it, your options are 1) justify it and make it socially acceptable or 2) hide it. The people in positions of authority have obviously gone with the first option.. but they don't have to be Orthodox Christians to make the rationalization work. If I were an Atheist, and if I had a "community group" (we won't call it a church), and if I were an evil bastard who wanted a child bride, I would make it happen. "When you die, only two things remain: your genetic material and the legacy you leave to that material. It is imperative that you, as reasonable, rational people, be a part of the future of humanity. You can't just live a good life, you also have to make sure your genes are passed on to the next generation. Without you, humanity cannot evolve! Without children, nothing of you will remain when you die. Breed early and breed often!" I'm not giving the Ethiopian Orthodox Church a pass on this, I'm just saying evil people are evil people, regardless of what gang colors they want to wear. It isn't religion that necessarily causes evil, evil is done by evil men, religion simply gives a ready-made excuse to perform evil deeds and say "God told me to". I just did a story on Ethiopian child-brides, where the local Christian church holds a belief that the Virgin Mary was married at age 15 and therefore, all girls should be too. This results in 90% of all girls being married far too young, simply because the local church says to do it. The same is true of government, especially when you have idiots in the White House who think that their mandate comes from God rather than the American people. When your religious fantasy life over-rules your rational mind, you've got trouble and when you're talking to God, asking what you ought to do, you need to go with the nice men in white coats with the special jacket with arms that tie in the back.
