National Novel Writing Month

Published by Janus on October 28, 2008

National novel writing month is less than a week away! If you’re interested in writing and need an excuse to flex your creative muscles, check it out. The challenge is simple: 50,000 words in 30 days. Quality be damned! I encourage everyone who is interested to jump in with both feet. If you want to know more about the event, check out the official web site at http://www.nanowrimo.org/

I’ve been meaning to do this for some time. I think this year may be the year! Thanks for the reminder…

While I have no problem whatsoever with people writing, it’s unfortunate that the publishing industry is in such a mess these days, so much so that aspiring first-time authors are pretty much out of luck, the odds against even getting read by an editor are somewhere between slim and none and even if you do manage to get printed, the expectations today are so much that the authors do all of the leg-work, all of the advertising, all of the promotion, etc. Often, whatever meager income the author can derive from the sale of their book is eaten up in costs trying to promote it.
