Arlen Specter announced he was changing parties today, switching from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party. After the absolutely huge blow up surrounding his switch, I think it would be appropriate to join the fray and give my two cents: I'm unmoved by this news. If you want to know why, you only need to take a look at his record in the Senate.

The fourth day of the Democratic National Convention was easily twice as good as the rest of the convention combined. Howard Dean was more boring than the DMV, but all of the other major speeches were, at the very least, energetic and well delivered. Even Al Gore’s performance was impressive and memorable, particularly the part about Abraham Lincoln.

This was what the DNC should have been for the last three days.

As of this post, the Democratic National Convention is now half over. Obviously, the highlight of the evening was Hillary Clinton. She was the main event. She delivered the best speech. She was by far the biggest crowd pleaser. She, quite convincingly in my opinion, made an effort to rally support for Obama. It was easily on par with or better than any of the other speeches I’ve heard her deliver. I think she did her best to burry the hatchet and unite the party.

Unfortunately, she was only one of two good speeches of the evening, and as good as they were, two good speakers out of over forty seems like something of a disappointment.

A week ago I outlined a rough framework for how I approach the question of who to support for President in an attempt to rationalize why I’ve decided to vote for the Republican nominee, John McCain despite the fact that I don’t particularly care for him. My reason? I hate him less than I hate his opponent. This is a look at the rhetoric and voting record of Barack Obama.
