I was having a conversation with someone the other day and she took a very moderate position when it comes to taxation. “We shouldn’t be taxing people who genuinely need every time they earn, but I don’t have a problem taxing people who have more money than they need.” Honestly, I find it hard to argue with that logic. It seems pretty reasonable to me. I vaguely agree, in theory.

Our republic is a compromise between democracy and dictatorship. It is a moderate government because we are a moderate people. We don't need radical change. We don't need to be forced to support our government. What we need is to stop and consider the bills that come before congress. What we need are rules to ensure the people are neither taken for granted nor allowed to run out of control. What we need are states that encourage innovation in stewardship and compete with one another in crafting sound policy.

What we really need, more than anything else, is the republic. It works for us. It's our choice. It's our system. It's tailored to meet our needs.

And I support it with every ounce of my being.

There isn't a magic bullet or a catch all solution to every country's governing needs. Each country has its own form of government with it's own quirks and particularities. No government is perfect – they all have their problems – even our own. I realize that by saying this I'm committing an act of supreme heresy against The American Religion, but the truth must be told: democracy is not always the answer.

All but one of these value are in harmony with one another. All but one of these value can be put next to any other value on the list and it can be said that these two values are consistent and complementary of one another. The odd man out – the one value that clashes with each of the other conservative values, is religion.

I do, here and now, declare that theocracy is incongruent with every other conservative value. No, really, let's look at it.
